A Step-by-Step Guide to Achieve Moisturized Hair Without Skin Irritation

From wash to style- a step-by-step guide
There is no such thing as normal hair. Each person's hair is unique and beautiful. A person can have different hair combinations, for example one type of hair on the top of their head and another type on their lengths.
There are many dimensions to define a hair. The Hair Chart has been a go-to for decades. While it's a simplified classification, it can be handy for describing hair type and selecting suitable products. But hair is hair, and no type is better than the other!
In our journey with Rufs, we listened closely to our community and learned that tangles and knots are universal and not tied to hair type. Straight strands to tight coils, both get tangled. For kids and parents’ tangles can be frustrating and we often want to tackle and fight them. But let’s think about those tangles and knots differently, learn to care for them and be friends with them.
While there is no universal manual for hair care (it’s all about testing and learning) we did develop a simple guide to achieve detangled, moisturized hair without skin irritation. The guide includes three main steps; wash, detangle and style. We also developed a guide for detangling your hair between washes.
OPTION 1- WASH & DETANGLE YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER
WASH
Start by washing your hair to get rid of dirt and buildup. Apply shampoo in the palm of your hand and massage through the scalp and hair strands. The Rufs Moisturizing shampoo is free from sulfates. It lathers less than some other shampoos but cleans and hydrates the hair without stripping the scalp of its natural oils.
DETANGLE
Add conditioner by massaging an amount (how much depends on your volume) into your hair strands. For best effect, let it rest for 2 minutes. Detangle the hair by using your fingers, brush or a comb and rinse well. Dry your hair with a towel. The Rufs Moisturizing conditioner locks in moisture, protects from breakage and leaves your hair soft and detangled. If you still have knots, spray some detangling spray and brush. If you have straight hair you might want to brush your hair when dry instead.
STYLE
To further moisturize your hair, add some Leave in conditioner to the hair. The Rufs Moisturizing Leave- in Conditioner is developed to be used every day. You can use it for light styling: to enhance the curls or create a sleek ponytail. Then let the hair air dry or use a dryer.
If you want defined curls, apply some curl cream to your hair and scrunch the curls.
With this simple guide, you'll say goodbye to tangles and knots and hello nourished, hydrated and happy hair!
*All hair types are prone to breakage when wet. However, brushing wavy to coily hair dry can often lead to breakage and frizz, due to “over brushing” so detangling and brushing the hair wet/damp is still recommended. For straight and wavy hair, it is often recommended to brush the hair dry.
OPTION 2- DETANGLE YOUR HAIR BETWEEN OR BEFORE WASHING
While the detangling process can vary from person to person, people with natural tight and dense curls and coils might find it easier and more efficient to detangle the hair before washing. Below are common tactics to do so:
1. WORK IN SMALL SECTIONS: Start by dividing the hair into at least four sections / parts before you begin detangling. Use twists, braids, or hair clips to keep your parts separated.
2. APPLY A DETANGLING PRODUCT: Apply a detangling spray or a leave-in conditioner to your damp or dry hair to add moisture. Both Rufs Moisturizing Detangler and Leave- in Conditioner helps detangle the hair while adding moisture and protection.
3. DETANGLE: Start with using your fingers to remove bigger knots and tangles, start from the ends and work towards the roots. If needed use a wide toothed comb or a detangling brush and gently detangle with patience. (Ps. Keep twist or braid of each section once detangled to make it easier). You can also detangle in the shower if that works for you.
WASH AND STYLE: follow the steps under option 1 above.
